And it will park in unexpected places to meet its audience. On the top of a popular sand dune or across the stalls of a deserted parking lot. It will stay there for a limited amount of time. So the next time you visit, it will be gone. Questioning the traditional idea that art pieces are static objects that belong to specific locations. MOBUMENTS are out there to celebrate the nomadism of our contemporary society. Movable, colorful, deployable, adaptable and monumental art machines. specifically designed for the Italian Pavillion at the 2023 Doha Expo. The Sestertius is a coin made with Italian “terra-cruda” (uncooked soil) that, unlike terra-cotta, once watered, loses its form to gain fertility. The visitors of the pavilion will bring home a piece of Italian Soil (Terra d’Italia) and they will eventually add it to their pots, where it will slowly return to its original status. The coins were proudly produced in Italy by the Munlab Ecomuseo dell’Argilla in Cambiano with Castellamonte Clay (Argilla di Castellamonte) and distributed in Doha throughout the event. 세스테르티우스(Sestertius)는 2023 도하 엑스포 이탈리아관을 위해 특별히 제작된 기념 증점품이다. 이 동전은 이탈리아의 ‘테라 크루다(terra-cruda, 날흙)’로 만들어졌으며, 테라코타와 달리 물을 머금으면 형태를 잃고 비옥한 흙으로 되돌아간다. 관람객들은 이탈리아의 흙(Terra d’Italia) 한 조각을 집으로 가져가 자신의 화분에 넣게 되고, 동전은 서서히 본래의 상태로 되돌아간다. 세스테르티우스는 이탈리아 문랩(Munlab)에서 자부심을 담아 카스텔라몬테 점토(Argilla di Castellamonte)로 제작되었으며, 엑스포 기간 동안 도하에서 배포되었다. landmarks designed to serve the Doha cricket community. They provide shade and rest opportunities for the people playing games under the scorching Qatari sun. Cricket is a very popular sport among the South Asian community in Doha. If you drive around the city on an early Friday morning, you will find groups of men playing in improvised pitches on vacant dirt lots or on empty parking areas. For these people, cricket is for sure a hard fought game but also a social ritual that brings together the community. It is an opportunity to relax and connect with people from a different social background that share the same passion. In spite of the considerable number of players that practice street cricket on weekends in Doha, there are only a few facilities to support their game. The aim of the Shelters project is to celebrate the value of the cricket community by providing two structures that can serve as gathering and resting areas. The Shelters are inspired by the temporary safety spaces built for the workers next to large construction sites. These refuges are made of scaffolding metal pipes covered with synthetic mesh and they are usually equipped with wood benches and basic safety gears. The two Shelters that were realized are fabricated with a similar technology. The main structure is built with metallic pipes while the cover is made of the fabric that is normally utilized in parking shades. Inside there is a gathering space and few wood benches that will allow the people to comfortably watch the game. The entire structure is removable and can be eventually transported and installed in a different location. The large surface of the external fabric is painted by Michael Perrone with atmospheric shades to merge the shelters into the surrounding urban landscape. The goal of the project is to use art and design to create a series of small landmarks that will positively help to shift the current perception of street cricket in Doha. READ ABOUT THE SHELTERS ON DESIGNBOOM 크리켓 랜드마크 쉘터(Shelters)는 도하(Doha)의 크리켓 커뮤니티를 위해 설계된 임시 랜드마크입니다. 이 구조물은 뜨거운 카타르 태양 아래에서 경기를 하는 사람들에게 그늘과 휴식 공간을 제공합니다. 도하에서 크리켓은 남아시아 커뮤니티 사이에서 매우 인기 있는 스포츠입니다. 금요일 이른 아침 도심을 운전하다 보면 빈 공터나 비어 있는 주차장에서 즉석으로 만든 크리켓 경기장을 찾아 경기를 즐기는 남성들을 쉽게 볼 수 있습니다. 이들에게 크리켓은 단순한 경쟁 스포츠일 뿐 아니라 공동체를 하나로 묶는 사회적 의식이며, 다양한 사회적 배경을 가진 사람들이 공통된 열정을 나누며 소통할 수 있는 기회입니다. 주말마다 수많은 사람들이 도하 거리에서 크리켓을 즐기고 있음에도 불구하고, 이를 지원하는 시설은 매우 부족한 실정입니다. 쉘터 프로젝트는 이러한 크리켓 커뮤니티의 가치를 기념하고자 두 개의 구조물을 설치하여 모임과 휴식이 가능한 공간을 제공하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 쉘터는 대형 건설 현장 옆에서 노동자들을 위해 설치된 임시 안전 공간에서 영감을 받아 디자인되었습니다. 이러한 대피소는 일반적으로 합성 메쉬로 덮인 금속 파이프로 만들어지며, 나무 벤치와 기본적인 안전 장비가 갖춰져 있습니다. 실제로 설치된 두 개의 쉘터는 이와 유사한 기술로 제작되었습니다. 주요 구조는 금속 파이프로 구성되어 있으며, 지붕은 주차장 차양막에 주로 사용되는 직물로 만들어졌습니다. 내부에는 사람들이 편하게 경기를 관람할 수 있도록 모임 공간과 몇 개의 나무 벤치가 마련되어 있습니다. 전체 구조물은 이동 가능하며, 다른 장소로 옮겨 재설치할 수 있습니다. 외부 천의 넓은 표면은 마이클 페로네(Michael Perrone)가 도시 환경과 조화를 이루도록 분위기 있는 색조로 페인팅하였습니다. 이 프로젝트의 목적은 예술과 디자인을 통해 도하의 거리 크리켓에 대한 인식을 긍정적으로 변화시키는 작은 랜드마크들을 만드는 것입니다. newly open Hangang Art Park, an open-air collection curated by Eun Byungsoo that includes 37 new public art pieces. The three loops structure welcomes the visitors with rest and performing areas and provides a key to navigate through the Art installations. The Hangang Art Park is a project supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The goal is to enhance the quality of the public spaces along the banks of the Han river with artworks inspired directly by citizens’ ideas or suggestions: the aim is to reconnect the people with the mighty power of the river and experience the flow of its energy, both at physical and spiritual level. With our project we decided to celebrate the generosity of the Han River that runs wide through the city of Seoul and brings life and prosperity to its banks and the surrounding hills. We recorded the Han River path, from East to West, on a monumental Scroll, a twisting platform that embodies the flowing energy of the water. The Scroll Pavilion is a 90-meters rolled up scale engraved with the river’s most significant landmarks. It is a gigantic miniature covering the entire urban course of the Han River (40.5 Km) divided into 202 block/units, each one representing 200 meters. Bridges, parks, archeological sites, iconic buildings which are currently shaping the life along the water, together with the location of the new HAP artworks, are drawn into icons and engraved into the blocks in contemporary cartouches. Markets is an initiative of the Seoul Government aimed to support local craft. The project, assigned through an invited competition, includes a fixed info and maintenance area and a flexible booth system: the facilities only operate during weekends and for this reason the booths had to be easy to store, move and deploy. Our project provides a collapsible and a stackable solution for the two sites located in Yeouido and Banpo. In Yeouido the site is narrow and long, squeezed between a lawn used for events and the waterfront. The booths are designed using a foldable V metal structure as the main chassis and orange PVC tarp as the body cover. Three booths are combined together to form a unit and stored during the week in proximity of the containers platform. Few hours before the events, each unit is quickly opened and pushed on its own wheels: the covers are rolled up, like on old convertible 2CV, to facilitate the view of the driver and ventilate the interior once parked in position. In the final linear formation, the booths provide privacy to each vendor without blocking the view of the Han river. In Banpo the site is next to the lower section of a double decker bridge, in an area full of built-in public benches and vegetation areas. This version is inspired by the stackable carts used in supermarkets. Booths are designed as single independent units on wheels with a simple pyramidal form: each side is skewed to facilitate stacking operations and reduce the amount of storage required. The frame is in metal and the cover is in yellow PVC tarp. The geometry of the single element allows different space configurations: “circle the wagon” for regular circular clusters, curved lines to follow the features of the site, straight alignments to provide a clear partition. The markets are currently in use and they are listed as one of Seoul’s iconic destinations. Read about the Night Markets on DESIGNBOOM밤도깨비 야시장은 지역공예를 지원하기 위한 서울 정부의 이니셔티브이다. 초청공모를 통해 진행된 이 프로젝트는 유지관리와 인포를 담당하는 고정된 영역과 유동적인 부스시스템으로 이루어져 있다. 이 시설은 주말에만 운영되므로 부스의 보관 및 이동이 용이해야 했다. 우리 프로젝트는 여의도와 반포 밤도깨비 야시장에서 사용할 수 있는 접이식 적층식 구조물을 제공한다. 여의도의 행사장은 물가 근처에 좁고 기다란 잔디밭에 위치한다. 부스는 접이식 V자형 금속 구조 형태이며 외부 마감은 주황색 PVC 타프를 사용하였다. 3개의 부스가 함께 결합하여 하나의 유닛을 형성하고 주중에는 근처 컨테이너 플랫폼에 보관한다. 행사가 시작되기 몇 시간 전, 각 유닛은 빠르게 열리고 아래 달린 바퀴를 이용해 이동한다. 커버는 구식 컨버터블 2CV와 같이 롤업되어 운전자의 시야를 확보하고 주차가 된 후에는 내부를 환기시키는 역할을 해준다. 최종 선형 대형이 완성되면 한강의 시야를 막지는 않는 선에서 각 부스 판매자들의 프라이버시도 보장해준다.&nbsp; 반포의 경우 2개의 층으로 이루어진 반포대교의 하부쪽에 야시장이 위치한다. 이곳은 고정된 공공벤치와 식생이 즐비한 지역이다. 반포 밤도깨비 야시장 구조물은 대형마트에서 흔히 사용하는 겹쳐서 보관할 수 있는 카트에서 영감을 받았다. 부스는 바퀴가 달린 간단한 피라미드 형태의 독립 장치다. 비스듬한 측면은 적재 작업을 용이하게 하여 필요한 저장공간을 줄여준다. 이 구조물 또한 프레임은 금속이고 커버는 노란색 PVC 타프이다. 단일 요소의 형태는 다양한 공간 구성을 가능하게 해준다. 일반 원형 클러스터의 경우 "포장마차의 원진*"의 형태도 가능하고 부지의 특성에 따라 흐르는 곡선형태를 띄거나 반대로 뚜렷한 구분을 위해 직렬 정렬 형태도 가능하다. 우리 구조물을 사용하고 있는 밤도깨비야시장은 현재까지도 활발히 운영되고 있으며 서울의 상징적 장소 중 하나이다. preservation project. It is a live experiment done by a member of our office and his family. It is the ultimate attempt to merge traditional space with a contemporary life style in order to bridge the gap between the past and the future of Korean dwelling culture. The house is located in an extremely dense urban context: a modern functional shield surrounds and protects the fragile traditions of the renovated wood core. Instead of a modern house inside a Hanok, it is Hanok hosted inside the living room of a modern house. 삼청동 한옥은 간단한 보존프로젝트가 아니다. 이것은 모토엘라스티코의 멤버 한 명과 그의 가족들이 겪게될 살아있는 실험이다. 궁극적인 시도는 전통과 현대의 삶의 공간이 함께하면서 한국인의 미래의 삶과 전통을 잇는다. 한옥은 도시의 주택가로 빼곡한 곳에 자리한다. 이러한 공간에서 현대 건축물은 주변으로부터 손상되기 쉽고 전통적인 나무의 원형을 보호하게 된다. 작업은 현대건축이 한옥으로 들어가는 대신에, 현대적 외형이 한옥의 내부로 들어오게 된다. organization dedicated to promote and disseminate the Italian rich cultural heritage. The Korean agency is adjacent to the Italian Embassy and it is located in Hannam-dong, in the heart of Seoul. The previous facility shared the entrance with the consular offices, making it difficult for the audience to use the services. The goal of the renovation project was to facilitate the access of the public and provide a flexible space for activities and events. The new space revolves around two Paper Colosseums that will be used for meetings, language classes, performances, book presentations and movie screening. The first Arena serves as a conference room for the Embassy, while the second one is a flexible space with a movable wall that can be used by the visitors for both language classes and meetings or for open presentations and performances. The monumental arenas are built with corrugated cardboard by Funnypaper, our trusted collaborator in many recent projects. The walls are divided into regular modules; they are cut with CNC and they are light and easy to assemble. Book your visit to the Institute and don’t miss the chance to spend some time in a monumental paperwork. 이탈리아 문화원(Italian Institute of Culture)는 이탈리아의 풍부한 문화유산을 홍보하고 전파하는 데 전념하는 정부 기관이다.주한 이탈리아 문화원은 이탈리아 대사관과 인접해 있으며 서울 중심부인 한남동에 위치한다. 리모델링을 하기 전에는 출입구를 대사관과 공유하고 있어 방문객들이 서비스를 이용하는데 어려움이 있었다.&nbsp; 리모델링 프로젝트의 목표는 대중의 접근을 용이하게 하고 활동과 행사를 위한 유연한 공간을 제공하는 것이었다. 새로운 공간은 회의, 언어 수업, 공연, 도서 발표 및 영화 상영에 사용될 두 개의 종이 콜로세움을 중심으로 전개된다. 첫 번째 콜로세움은 대사관을 위한 회의실 역할을 하는 반면, 두 번째 공간은 이동식 벽면으로 구성되어 있는 유연한 공간으로 방문객들을 위한 언어 수업이나 회의뿐만 아니라 공개 발표회 및 공연 등을 위해 사용할 수 있다. 이 기념비적인 경기장은 최근 많은 프로젝트에서 함께한 우리가 신뢰하는 협력사, Funnypaper에 의해 골판지로 지어졌다. 벽은 모듈 방식으로 설계되었으며 CNC로 절단되어 가볍고 조립하기 쉽다. 이탈리아문화원 방문을 예약하여 기념비적인 페이퍼 워크 안에서 시간을 보낼 기회를 놓치지 마세요! building is a place that people cross every day to go somewhere else. It is often a stage of a journey or a place for an encounter, but rarely a final destination. For these reasons a lobby is a space with a very pragmatic identity: a uniform background witnessing the daily stream of business. The project for the Obiz Tower Lobby challenges all these ideas: it aims to create a space full of identity using a highly visible and recognizable pattern. It is a Seventies’ Show set design or a striped renaissance Cathedral, a shot of color on a grey concrete canvas. To enhance the graphic features of the project, we used a striped tridimensional pattern that goes well beyond the limits imposed by the interior space. The pattern starts on the pavement of the public plaza around the building, and it leads the users towards the main reception area. The stripes work as a filter: they collect the visitors from outside and redirect them towards their final destination within the building. The lobby becomes a landmark, a geometric progression, where a simple design feature is used to organize all the elements of the space: floor, walls, ceilings but also furniture and lighting. Diverse but uniform. The lobby is more than 11 meters high, so we decided to lighten up the construction of the higher areas, without compromising the pattern composition. The project was realized alternating two different kinds of stone, green oriental marble and gray granite, for the floor and the lower parts of the walls; while for the high walls and the ceilings we used punched metal panels in two colors and different patterns. It all comes down to a 60x60 cm construction grid, which makes the project completely modular and eventually adaptable to different locations. 고층 건물의 로비는 건물을 사용하는 사람들이 매일 거쳐가는 장소이다. 종착지를 가기 위해 거쳐가는 장소이자 만남의 장소지만 최종 목적지인 경우는 거의 없다. 이러한 이유로 로비는 매우 실용적인 기능을 가진 공간이다. 비즈니스의 일상적인 흐름을 목격하는 균일한 배경이 된다. 오비즈 타워 로비 (Obiz Tower Lobby) 프로젝트는 이러한 모든 생각에 도전장을 내민다. 사람들에게 익숙한 눈에 잘 띄는 패턴을 이용해 정체성이 가득한 공간을 만들고자 했다. 70년대 쇼 세트 디자인이기도 하고 줄무늬 가득한 르네상스 성당이기도 하다. 회색 콘크리트 캔버스에 컬러를 더한 작품이다. 프로젝트의 그래픽적 기능을 향상시키기 위해, 우리는 실내 공간의 한계를 뛰어넘는 3차원의 줄무늬를 패턴으로 사용했다. 건물 외부에 있는 공공광장의 바닥에서 시작하는 패턴은 사용자를 주요 리셉션 구역으로 안내한다. 이 줄무늬는 필터로 작용한다. 외부에서 방문자를 수집하여 건물 내 최종 목적지로 다시 안내한다. 로비는 랜드마크가 되고, 기하학적 진행이 된다. 단순한 디자인 기능을 이용하여 바닥, 벽, 천장은 물론 가구과 조명에 이르기까지, 모든 공간의 모든 요소를 구성한다. 다양하지만 균일한 형태로 말이다. 로비 높이가 11미터가 넘어서 우리는 패턴의 구성을 손상시키지 않으면서도 공간 상부 구조물을 밝게 만드는 것에 중점을 두었다. 바닥과 벽의 하부에는 녹색 동양 대리석과 회색 화강암, 이 두 가지 종류의 석재를 번갈아가면서 사용하였다. 벽면의 상부와 천장에는 타공 철판을 사용하였고, 철판에는 석재와 동일한 두 가지 색상이 적용되었다. 이 모든 것은 60x60cm 크기의 그리드로 구성되었기 때문에 프로젝트는 완벽히 모듈화된 상태로 존재하여, 궁극적으로는 다른 위치에서도 똑같이 적용이 가능한다. unit designed for the Munlab, a Clay Ecomuseum located in Cambiano, near Torino. It is an energy independent and collapsible display device that can adapt, due to the flexibility of its six arms, to different terrains. The Munrover was inspired by the self-reliant exploration devices that were recently landed on Mars. Rather than reaching other planets and collecting samples like a Mars Rover, the Munrover reaches people and disseminates the results of the Ecomuseum Team explorations. The Munrover is designed around a main body made of perforated metal used to store both the objects on display and the exhibition gears. The gears include a computer, two digital screens, lights, two solar panels, flags, metal poles and few extra display disks. Six legs with different length and adjustable stoppers are hinged to the main body; they allow multiple space configurations to better fit the conditions of each site/terrain. The legs are completed by ten disks in perforated metal used to display the objects. When fully deployed in outdoor locations, the main body of the Munrover is powered by the solar panels and is completely self-sufficient. Once exhibitions are over, the unit fully collapses and it can be easily moved to a different location on the flatbed of a small truck.문로버는 토리노 근처 캄비아노에 위치한 클레이 에코 박물관 문랩를 위해 설계된 휴대용 전시 장치이다. 6개의 유연한 팔 덕분에 여러 다른 지형에 적응이 가능하며, 에너지 독립적인 접이식 디스플레이다. 문로버는 최근 화성에 착륙한 자립 탐사 장치에서 영감을 받았다. 문로버는 다른 행성에 다가가 샘플을 수집하는 화성탐사로봇 마스 로버와는 달리, 문로버는 사람들에게 다가가 에코 박물관팀의 발견을 전파한다.&nbsp; 문로버는 전시물과 전시 장비를 모두 보관할 수 있는 타공철판 몸통으로 이루어져 있다. 이 장비에는 컴퓨터, 2 개의 디지털 스크린, 조명, 2 개의 태양 전지판, 깃발, 금속 기둥 및 여분의 추가 디스플레이 디스크가 포함된다. 조절 가능한 스토퍼를 지닌 각기 다른 길이의 6개의 다리는 본체와 힌지로 연결되어 있다. 덕분에 여러 조건과 대지 상황에 맞추어 다양한 공간을 구성이 가능하다. 다리는 타공철판으로 마감된 10 개의 물건 전시용 디스크로 완성된다. 완전히 오픈된 실외공간에서 사용할 경우, 문로버는 태양 전지판으로 온전히 자립하여 본체를 구동할 수 있다. 전시가 끝나면 장치를 접어서 소형 트럭에 가뿐히 실어서 손쉽게 다른 곳으로 이동할 수 있다.
