Self Parking Bang
2019 UABB SHENZHEN
MOTOElastico’s installation “Self Parking Bang” will be on show from December 21, 2019, until March 2020 in Shenzhen, as part of the “Eyes of the City” exhibition at the 8th Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture (UABB).
“Eyes of the City” is curated by MIT professor Carlo Ratti (Chief Curator), Politecnico di Torino/Michele Bonino and SCUT/ (Academic Curators), and explores the impact of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and facial recognition, on urban life. The title of the exhibition was inspired by the “eyes on the street” phrase coined by urban activist Jane Jacobs in the 1960s. As new technology permeates the urban landscape, cities themselves are acquiring the ability to see, thanks to sensors and data that enable the built environment to respond to people’s presence in real-time.
MOTOElastico’s Self Parking Bang speculates on the new relationship between cars and humans after the diffusion of shared and self driving vehicles. The project foresees a double scenario: in public cars will generate new forms of “rentable” public space while in private they will become devices used to recreate the lost experience of driving. In both cases they will not have to move much to be valuable: it is the birth of the Self Parking Bang*

자율주차방 | 선전(심천) 도시건축 바이시티 비엔날레 모토엘라스티코의 설치물 “ 자율주차방"이 선전(심천)에서 제 8회 도시건축 바이시티 비엔날레(UABB) “도시의 눈" 전시회의 일환으로 2019년 12월 21일부터 2020년 3월까지 선보인다.
“도시의 눈”은 매사추세츠공과대학교(MIT)의 교수 카를로 라티(총감독)와 폴리테크니코 디 토리노의 미켈레 보니노 및 화남이공대학(SCUT)의 학술 큐레이터들에 의해 기획되었으며 인공지능 및 안면인식과 같은 새로운 기술이 도시 생활에 미치는 영향을 탐구한다. 전시회 제목은 1960년대 도시 운동가 제인 제이콥스 (Jane Jacobs)의 “가로 위의 눈(eyes on the street)”이라는 문구에서 영감을 받았다. 사람들의 존재에 실시간으로 반응 할 수 있는 센서와 데이터와 같은 새로운 기술이 도시 환경에 스며들어감에 따라 도시 자체가 볼 수 있는 능력을 얻고 있다.
자율주자차는 공유차량과 주율주행 자동자가 확산된 이후 자동차와 인간 사이의 새로운 관계를 추측한다. 이 프로젝트는 두 가지 시나리오를 예상한다. 공공차량에서는 새로운 형태의 “임대 가능한” 공공공간이 생성되는 반면, 개인 공간에서는 잃어버린 운전 경험을 재현하는 장치가 될 것으로 보인다. 두 경우 모두 가치를 높이기 위해 많은 거리를 주행할 필요는 없다. 이것이 자율주차방의 탄생이다.
